Learn to Blend Your Own Sour Beer at the Sour Symposium

I am a sour beer evangelist. And it is in that capacity that I must inform you of a mouth carnival for sour lovers happening in Santa Monica this Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Library Alehouse on Main Street plays host to the grand finale of New Belgium Brewing Company’s five-part, nationwide sour beer roadshow, the Sour Symposium.

Make sure to wear your nerd hat. Things will be getting geeky. New Belgium’s sour experts Lauren Salazar and Eric Salazar are bringing several varieties of unblended base beers from New Belgium’s cellar. The idea is to create your own sour blend using samples from the enormous wood foeders that populate New Belgium’s brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado. On top of making your own sour blend, you’ll learn the process of sour brewing—from grain to barrel to bottle.

Of course there will be pints of La Folie on hand to lubricate your creative beer-making gears, and paired food selections from Library. New Belgium is killing it when it comes to sours. And who knows? Maybe you could be the next sour beer-blending wizard after this master class. Tickets go for $55 and include the seminar, a pint of La Folie and food pairings.
