You don’t need an excuse to ease into the weekend with a tropical drink, but here’s one anyway: May 1 is Lei Day in Hawaii, and West Hollywood cocktail lounge Now Boarding is marking the occasion on Friday with three themed cocktails (all $10) from 6-8 p.m.
Guests can sip the Tongan Thumb (Atlantico rum, Gosling’s dark rum, Velvet Falernum, Allspice Dram, Maui Brand natural cane sugars, lime, and cream), the Lay Over (Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, Bacardi 151, Maui Brand natural cane sugar, lime, passion fruit, and house-made spicy bitters), or the Booze Cruise (Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, Shellback spiced rum, coconut, pineapple, lime, Maui Brand natural cane sugar, and passion fruit) while wearing leis and enjoying Hawaiian-themed music and videos.
For another island fix involving cocktails, A-Frame’s Luau Hour in Culver City is going strong from 5-7 p.m. daily plus 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. weekends. This is your chance to eat Roy Choi’s Cracklin Beer Can Kitchen and drink $8 cocktails like the Guava Buck (vodka, guava, ginger beer, and lime) and the Big Island Gimlet (gin, lilikoi, lime, Angostura bitters).
