Eagle Rock’s Colorado Wine Company Has Been Sold

A sad goodbye to owner John Nugent’s popular Eagle Rock wine shop

Sad news for local wine lovers today: Colorado Wine Company owner John Nugent announced that he has sold the shop to new ownership. According to a final newsletter sent out to e-mail subscribers, John writes, “[the new owners] plan on keeping the name and generally keeping up the original idea of Colorado Wine Company — a family-owned store and bar, focused on our local community that caters to the less snobby side of wine and beer culture. But they also have new things planned for CoWineCo, and I wish them all the best.”

John Nugent and his wife Jen opened Colorado Wine Company in Eagle Rock in 2005 and quickly amassed a local following for their affable and quirky style, often hosting classes and special events in their tasting room that helped expose customers to a wide range of interesting wines.

Sadly, Jen Nugent passed away earlier in the year and since then John Nugent arrived at the tough decision of transferring ownership to new buyers. In his own words, “[Jen] would want to thank all of you that supported us throughout the years, all the great friends we have made, all the weddings, birthday parties, and sad moments you let us share with you in our bar and in your homes.  It was a remarkably gratifying and humbling journey for both of us.”

Those wishing to leave a departing message for Colorado Wine Co., can post on their Facebook posts, where hundreds of fans have already offered their condolences.
