Cocktail Couture: Drink in These Dresses from the 2015 Oscars

Toast Academy Awards fashion with gorgeous L.A. cocktails

Last night the energy on the red carpet before the Academy Awards was electric. But not because everyone couldn’t wait to see who was going to take home the Oscar for Best Picture. Rather, they wanted to see who was wearing what. Lots of gorgeous fashions hitting the red carpet before the big show…and some misses. Whatever the case, there were plenty of outfits that resembled L.A. cocktails. By the way, I really tried to find a drink that matched Lady Gaga and her ruby red dishwashing gloves, but, alas, that was a no-go.

Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl

Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike stood out in this red strapless Givenchy Haute Couture gown. Its vibrancy and embroidered texture emulate the smoldering red of Eveleigh’s Wicked Game cocktail (Campari, dry vermouth, blood orange and fennel gastrique, soda) and the bubbles of its carbonation.

Lupita Nyong’o

Last year’s Supporting Best Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o stole the show in her stunner of a Calvin Klein gown, which might have been the most expensive dress on the red carpet last night. She really had no need for jewelry since the dress was reportedly made with 6,000 pearls!  The pearl detailing on the halter does a great job mimicking the pellet ice in Harlowe’s chai tea latte-inspired brunch cocktail, Sex, Drugs & Heartfelt Conversation (Ancient Age bourbon, Lost Spirits 151, chai tea, sweetened condensed milk, cinnamon).

Nicole Kidman

Not many people were crazy about Nicole Kidman’s shimmery gown, which topped many a “Worst Dressed” list. But hey, at least she looks like Freddy Smalls’ Tequila Sunrise, which is a gorgeous cocktail, from that blood orange accent to the dominant yellow orange.

Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game

Sassafras’ Hurricane and The Imitation Game actress Keira Knightley’s Valentino couture gown might not share the same hues, but there is a striking similarity in the busyness of the script on the candleholder-turned-cocktail glass and her dress. Plus, the orange wheel garnish serves as the Hurricane’s headband a la Keira’s.

Short Order’s Aviation might be a classic and Jared Leto’s lilac suit, well, not, but it’s hard to deny their resemblance. Down to the stark white accents of shoes and foam.

Luciana Duvall and Jennifer Lopez

Forget who wore this Ellie Saab tulle gown best. (J. Lo did.) Luciana Duvall (actor Robert Duvall’s wife) and Jennifer Lopez both do an awesome impression of The Independence’s Sawtelle cocktail (Citron vodka, kumquats, blood orange, honey-ginger syrup, Curtis bitters). The delicate-hued cocktail in its full-bottom glass is a cross between Duvall’s peach gown and Lopez’s nude. Also, their beadwork looks a lot like that ice.
