CONCERN FOUNDATION FOR CANCER REASEARCH 41ST ANNUAL BLOCK PARTY

124

On Saturday, July 11, 2015, the Concern Foundation for cancer research successfully produced its 41st Annual Block Party, An Evening in Paradise, on the back lot of Paramount Pictures Studios in Hollywood and raised over $1.5 million for cancer research. This year, the Block Party paid tribute to more than 750 cancer researchers, all of whom have demonstrated their achievements as leaders committed to finding innovative treatments and ultimately, cures for cancer.

For 4,000 party-goers, both locals and out of town visitors alike, the event proved to be a great way to spend a summer evening. The island themed event, designed by John Ferdenzi of Town & Country Event Rentals, was outfitted by a number of sponsors and vendors who brought gourmet foods, specialty cocktails, and interactive experiences. More than 60 food and beverage vendors showcased delectable delights from their menus. Some of the event activities included 3D Cheeze photos, Brian Kramer digital photo studio, Island Ink airbrush tattoos, spa services provided by Marinello Schools of Beauty all provided hours of fun and entertainment.

Los Angeles magazine outfitted the Best of LA® street with an interactive Infiniti Lounge that included displays of the Infiniti Q50 and QX60, a DJ, tote bag screen printing, and Compartes chocolates. Guests also enjoyed wine tasting in partnership with wineLA, a photo booth, and treats from Clif and Luna bar. With the support of sponsors, Los Angeles magazine donated $25,000 to Concern Foundation.

The Block Party also featured live musical entertainment on four stages, including Oskar Caraya & The Enclave and D’ City Sound with MC Dwayne, as well as a number of island themed performers such as Pan Dulce, Son De Cuba, Caro Pierotto and Marbella. On the main stage, Frank Mottek, KNX1070 award winning journalist and member of the board of directors for Concern Foundation, was emcee throughout the evening. He was later accompanied by Derek Alpert, president of Concern Foundation who states:

“We are all here tonight because cancer has affected every single one of our lives, and will continue to affect the lives of our loved ones until a solution is found. Concern Foundation works every day to conquer cancer by funding the most innovative and promising research in the field of cancer immunology.”

During the program, cancer researchers took the stage for a powerful demonstration of the work they have accomplished and the various types of cancer they are working against.

To continue the celebration, award-winning actress Jill Whelan from “The Love Boat” and fellow celebrity personality Brian Phelps took the stage to host the live auction, where guests had the opportunity to bid on VIP tickets to the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, a Panerai Luminor watch, Turkish Airline round-trip business class tickets and even rescue dogs provided by Trixie’s Pet Depot and Paws U Love.
