Weedmaps is betting there’s a thing or two you don’t already know about cannabis–like, say, that hemp was used to make ancient samurai armor–and that you might have fun learning about it (and posing for a few selfies) at their new pop-up weed museum, opening in Hollywood on August 3.
The Museum of Weed is a ticketed experience running through September 29, featuring 30,000 square feet of exhibits on cannabis history, science, and culture, plus a full cafe and merch shop (note: no actual marijuana can be sold on site). General admission tickets are $35, but people with a lot of disposable income can splurge on $200 VIP tickets, that include special access, plus drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a gift bag.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B0O5Fr9n6qK/In a statement about the pop-up, Weedmaps, the marijuana delivery service backing the project, explains their motivations thusly: “The experience builds on our long-standing commitment to combat stigma and to shed light on social justice issues surrounding cannabis.”
To accomplish that goal, the museum will feature sections dedicated to legal issues surrounding marijuana prohibition, how drug prosecutions have contributed to racially and socially unjust mass incarcerations. There are more light-hearted areas as well, of course, including a portion focused on the Baby Boomer generation’s adoption of weed as a symbol of peace, love, and counterculture.
The Weedmaps Museum of Weed runs from August 3 to September 29 at 720 Cahuenga Blvd., Hollywood. Tickets are $29 to $200 and available online. All guests must be at least 18 years old.
