A Creepy Valentine’s Day Gift Minted This L.A. Relationship

Each week we ask a local couple, ”How did you meet?”

In our series How Did You Meet?, local couples tell us how they first hooked up.

Sarah and Cory met on the dating app Tinder two years ago.

“What was great about the app is that we were able to see that we had mutual friends and so people could actually vouch for us,” explains 34-year-old Cory. “Then we weren’t going in as total strangers.”

It made them feel so comfortable that their first date was at Sarah’s apartment where they proceeded to watch the horror movie It.

At the time, the two were living in Wisconsin, but a month ago, they decided to move to Los Angeles so that Cory could attend USC film school.

“We live near Silver Lake,” says 30-year-old Sarah, who works in social media and PR. “We spend the weekends getting coffee at Alfred, eating at Yeastie Boys, and going to movies.”

The two love to remind one another of that first film they watched together. In fact, one year on Valentines Day, as a nod to the film, Sarah tied a red balloon to Cory‘s mailbox.

“I thought it was very romantic yet a little bit creepy,” admits Cory of the unusual Valentines Day gift. It worked!
