The LAMag Guide to Weekend Sales: Off White, Rip Curl Sample Sales

An incredible menswear sale from a white hot brand has just launched online while a downtown market for women’s apparel will have you saying ”that’s hot” over and over again

Summer has officially arrived, shoppers and bargain hunters, and the retail and apparel world know you are eager to show off some hot new looks for that pool party, park picnic or whatever summer activities come up. Angelenos are in luck again, as there is a potpourri of deeply discounted sample sales and antique events coming this weekend. And there seems to be something for everyone across L.A.: We can shop the online menswear sale from a recently deceased genius, rock some throwback gear that pays tribute to our misspent youth or pick through rare antiques in the homes of the city’s wealthy fashion and furniture aficionados. Happy shopping weekend—we’ll see you next season.

Off White Men’s Flash Sample Sale
Online, from June 17-June 21

Gentlemen, I hope you’re ready right to shop right now because Chicmi’s online Off White Men’s Flash Sample Sale just began and you know the fashion-meets-streetwear looks will pop this summer. The label was launched 10 years ago by the late Virgil Abloh and lives in “the gray zone in between black and white,” as Abloh once said; we think the brand has been incredible at pushing classic silhouettes in bold directions over the years. The sale runs for the next five days and some lucky fellas can expect discounts that go up to 60 percent off. And ladies, don’t feel left out—the Off White women’s sale is going on now and doesn’t end until Sunday.

Hot Girl Market
June 18, 1-6 p.m. 130 E 32nd St.

This DTLA market that’s arriving just days ahead of summer will feature 30 vendors who will be bringing you back to kinder days with all the best of women’s vintage/2000s clothing; think miniskirts, Hysteric Glamor, Juicy Couture, vintage tees—maybe even a Von Dutch trucker hat? Let them take you back to the era of tall tales of WMDs and marauding celebutantes—you know, back when the “famous for being famous” concept was still in its salad days and The Strokes were as inescapable as side bangs. Handmade and upcycled clothing will be featured throughout this unique market, which we’re told is focused on sustainability and women-owned businesses. That’s hot.

A Vintage Walk’s Pop-Up Flea Market
June 18, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. 1033 N. Asuza, Covina

If you’re up for a cruise out to Covina, the area in front of the antique shop A Vintage Walk will be transformed into a flea market with vendors selling collectible toys, antiques, decor, jewelry, plants, and much more. And here’s a sure-to-be-delicious bonus as Mexican food will be for sale on site. This market, which comes around the third Sunday of every month, is the store’s first market since the dawn of the COVID-19 pandemic and comes at its 10-year anniversary. So let’s show some love.

Then on Sunday, why not check out the Long Beach Flea Market, where they hit the trifecta of “chic, cheap, and unique” with over 20 acres of vintage clothes, collectibles, antiques and all things flea.

Rip Curl Warehouse Sale
June 9-19, 10 a.m.-6 .p.m 1400 Village Way, Santa Ana

Oh hey, look—running in spring’s final days and closing two days before the official start of summer it’s one of the biggest surfing sportswear retailers in the world having a sale. The already ongoing Rip Curl Warehouse Sale is bringing you 40-80 percent off T-shirts, dresses, hoodies, board shorts, pants, wetsuits, surf accessories—really all the clothes you’ll need for an endless summer.

Estate Sales
All weekend, across L.A. and Orange Counties (view listings here)

Here’s a free shopping tip: Some of the most stunning clothing, jewelry, and antique furniture collections in Los Angeles are hidden away in our city’s many apartments, homes and sprawling mansions. For decades, these sought-after treasures have not been for sale or accessible to the public—but then, sometimes, suddenly one or two are opened up after a death or someone’s sudden need to split town. You, dear shopper, can benefit here—walk freely about these homes that are time capsules filled with price-tagged art, collectibles, furniture and clothing then pay for what you want and head out the front door. One weekend highlight that we’re eyeing is being pitched as the wardrobe sale of “an amazing athlete” who “dressed impeccably”—apparently in Ted Baker suits, Banana Republic, Scotch and Soda, Ralph Lauren, Adidas, Vineyard and Vines, Nike and other stylish brands. We’ll look for you there but you can thank us later.

La Dolce Vitae Luxury Warehouse Sale
June 16-18, 10 am-5 pm 1903 E. Deere, Santa Ana

Orange County luxury retail outlet La Dolce Vitae is in the middle of what looks like a killer outlet sale and if you can get yourself out there asap, you’re about to save 30-80 percent off some very chi-chi brands. And we think you know them and you know them well: Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Moschino, Gucci, Versace, Off White, Balenciaga and Prada are some of the tags you’ll be seeing there; you can rsvp and book a time here, too.

Rent the Runway Sample Sale
June 21-26 301 N Canon Drive, Beverly Hills

Starting on Tuesday, you can shop some of the e-commerce clothing rental-sales brand’s previously used apparel and accessories from major designers—thanks to the wonderful folks at 260 Sample Sale. The savings of up to a spit-take-inducing 90 percent off these gently worn looks should persuade anyone to hit up the store mid-week. The work of shopping is never really done, is it?
