Bike to Care is a trans-Atlantic culinary fundraising event created in 2022 by Pierre-Henry Gagey of Maison Louis Jadot, one of the most venerable wineries in Burgundy, and his local friends, who wanted to raise money to support rising talent in the hospitality industry. Last year, the event raised over 22,000 euros as they cycled through France. This year, several culinary luminaries, including celebrity chef Marc Murphy, owner of Prune in New York City and author Gabrielle Hamilton, The Restaurant star Rocco DiSpirito, multihyphenate chef Spike Mendelsohn, Food Network personality David Rose, and beverage queen Heather Freyer will be cycling through 200 kilometers of Bordeaux countryside over two days in May.
This year’s beneficiary is Regarding Her, a national non-profit founded in 2020 by nine women restaurateurs in Los Angeles that, in reactoin to the lack of funding to women in restaurants, connects foodies to eateries and experiences owned by women, those identifying as women, and the nonbinary. (Their website has a handy tool where you can find women-owned restaurants in L.A.)
The fun isn’t all in France, of course. In L.A., join modern eatery Redbird’s chef Neal Fraser’s fundraiser and Walk Around Tasting Event benefitting Bike to Care, including chefs Elizabeth Falkner, and multi-restaurant success Mary Sue Milliken, executive chef at New Orleans’ Aarón Sánchez, and food stylist and co-founder of RE:Her Sandra Cordero for a tasting in The Garden at Redbird (114 E 2nd St, Los Angeles 90012) in downtown L.A. on Sunday, April 23rd from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. to support the cause.
