W Hollywood

Best Hotel Gift Shop, August 2011
There’s an old-world glam to the W Hotels-The Store at the W Hollywood, where you’ll discover packs of cigarettes in a fishbowl next to the guppy lighters and a retro Moshi Moshi telephone receiver that plugs into a cell phone (should you be worried about radiation). Racks of Goorin Bros. fedoras and a beaded clutch from Deepa Gurnani beckon to hipsters who venture off the Sunset Strip.

Best Hotel Lobby, August 2011
If your living room is feeling familiar and dreary, trade it (momentarily) for the Norma Desmond-meets-Stanley Kubrick environs of the W Hollywood lobby. An onyx bar glows next to an ivory-colored wall, and if you can’t find a place to lounge on the army of couches or in the huge pillow pit, you’re just not trying. A grand white marble staircase curves along a mirrored wall below a 20-foot-high sparkling chandelier. And you still haven’t gotten to the outdoor lounge with fire pits and a giant retractable screen—all the better for watching the Lakers, which is what you would be doing if you were at home.
