Venice Boulevard

Best East-West Bike Commute, August 2011

Let’s say you’d like to save gas and money while vaporizing a few calories. A bike can get you there. The city has miles to go before its newly approved Los Angeles Bicycle Plan improves the lot of most would-be bike commuters. Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a direct crosstown route, do what the mayor did: Choose Venice Boulevard, which has a bike lane—an L.A. rarity—that runs from Crenshaw to the coast (just watch out for taxis). For other routes, see the Los Angeles County Bike Coalition’s “Better Bike Routes” map or the Metro route map that the coalition links to in the resource section of its site.
