Penmar Municipal Golf Course

Best Nine-Hole Golf Course, August 2011
Executive courses, as the truncated versions of the 18-hole game are called, too often feel claustrophobic and look dog-eared from the heavy use. Not Penmar Municipal Golf Course in Venice, part of the city’s recreation and parks empire. Penmar seems to have no lack of water, hence the lush fairways and resilient greens. Large trees provide cover and memorable scenery. There are enough long holes to challenge the veterans, while the flat landscape reassures the beginner. Watch for those bag-busting squirrels on the fifth tee and the gorgeous bluebirds on the seventh fairway.
