Best Chocolatier, August 2014
Valerie Gordon believes every great bonbon tells a story. A superlative chocolate experience “requires a beginning, middle, and end,” says the cofounder of Valerie Confections. Take, for instance, her ever-popular Almond Fleur de Sel Toffee ($20 for a six-pack), which opens with crunch, seduces with Valrhona sweetness, and finishes with just enough salt to have you guarding the box like a Visigoth. These hand-dipped luxuries—homages to See’s Victoria Toffee—were the company’s first hit ten years ago. Today three L.A. locations offer an array of truffles, mendiants, and bars for every kind of happy ending.
