Right Bank Babies
Best Children’s Clothing Label, August 2009
With pantaloons, pinafores, and capelets in its line, Right Bank Babies sounds like a posh European label. Although designer Ellen Uzarowicz lived in Paris during her days as a painter and likes to use luxe fabrics such as linen and silk, her collection, primarily designed and produced in L.A., bears the hallmarks of American pragmatism. Most items are reversible, machine washable, and permanent press. Like a high-fashion house, this one puts forth an inventive vision: gold brocade A-line dresses or pants with ruffled hems one season, empire-waist frocks and elephant-print short-sleeved shirts another.
