Best Lamps, August 2013
From the Italian megastores on La Brea Avenue to the mod merchants on Beverly Boulevard to the retro French shops in Culver City, there’s a blinding array of lamp retailers in town. But the experience that comes closest to raiding Grandma’s attic is atPractical Props. The North Hollywood operation, which has been renting and selling vintage lamps to the entertainment industry since 1991, stocks a multitude of styles, from reproduction art deco sconces to Sputnik-style chandeliers. A midcentury fixture—going for $2,200 elsewhere—had a 1960s price tag here. The shop can also make copies of, say, the lantern you saw in that buzzy gastropub; just bring a picture.
