Goodwill

Best Thrift Store for Designer Finds, August 2008

You would think all L.A. thrift shops would be wiped clean by rag pickers. They’re not. The practice of customers’ picking through racks as they are rolled onto the sale floor is no longer permitted at the Hollywood Goodwill, which improves the chances of the casual shopper against the pros. We’ve found Marc by Marc Jacobs hoodies, a blazer by Bob Mackie, and items from new labels Rachel Comey and Ksubi. There’s no accounting for the preponderance of garments from Theory and the defunct Earl Jean or for the staff’s habit of hanging adult designer clothes in the kids’ section, but who cares when you’ve discovered a Stella McCartney top for less than $20?.
