Dry cleaning may be a life staple right up there with food, shelter, and sex, but the industry’s favorite cleaning solvent, perchloroethylene, is associated with a raft of environmental and health risks, including central nervous system damage, that we could do without. A growing number of operators have switched to environmentally friendlier cleaning methods. Sunny-Brite in Eagle Rock is impressive, but our favorite is James Jung’s Beverly Hills-adjacent Couturier Cleaners, where the service is enthusiastic (really), the cost is reasonable, and the clothes come out fresh and clean. What a novel experience to tear off the plastic wrap from a sweater and smell absolutely nothing.
