Big Daddy’s Antiques

Best Salvage Antiques, August 2011

Big Daddy’s Antiques had us at the elegant reliquary near the front door, traces of gilt and paint clinging to its scrollwork. Or maybe it was the handmade wire birdcages. Or the coin-operated rides that once entertained kids outside neighborhood markets. You’ll have to wait until September 1 to visit Big Daddy’s in its new Culver City location. But the array of well-worn wood and iron goods promises to be as intriguing as at the old Willowbrook site, where we coveted the Victorian-era shell collection. Owner Shane Brown is the most convivial of hosts, whether he’s talking family history or cutting a price deal.
