Yxta Cocina Mexicana
The folks behind Highland Park favorite El Arco
Iris have opened the sleek Yxta (pronounced “eeksta”) in an especially unscenic stretch of downtown. Inside are mosaic tiles, arty light fixtures, and a hopping bar come happy hour. We understand the crowds: The house-made sour mix makes for a supersmooth margarita, and among the nueva mexicana nibbles are squash blossoms stuffed with queso Oaxaca, sweet shrimp taquitos, and daily rotating sopas like the delicate ablondigas de pescado (fish meatballs). We’ll say it: The mole poblano, which drenches everything from the enchiladas to the roasted chicken, is downtown’s best.
