Yamato

Pomegranate-jelly oyster shooters, Monkfish liver pâté. Fresh sea eel. You want another eclectic Japanese dining experience on the Westside? Then welcome Yamato, the new restaurant in EuroChow’s former locale. You’ve had tuna before, but the bluefin sashimi here is bloodred and silky. The sake menu is impressive, spanning several pages. There are some kinks to iron out—a tomato-lime oyster concoction has the salt content of seaweed. But UCLA students and Wilshire Corridor workers sem hapy with the sushi rolls and $5-and-under menu of “small beginnings.”
