True Food Kitchen

Mall food goes health food at this Santa Monica Place restaurant. Guided by Dr. Andrew Weil, the minichain puts nutrition first but with flavor close behind. The room is hip, minus the dip. Drinks come as juice-driven “natural refreshments,” although there’s also a selection of beers, wines, and lightly spiked cocktails. The menu is less about calorie counting and more about wholesome fuel for the body. The flatbread-style pizzas sport real cheese, and the tacos come stuffed with steak and sour cream. You’ll also find sardines—rich in omega-3s—drizzled with tangy salsa verde, brown rice penne in a turkey bolognese, and a slew of salads. The menu is all over the place, but most dishes satisfy.
