This sleek spot is a surprise from the Houston’s folks. A glass ceiling and a front wall that’s basically a mesh screen lend the space an airy courtyard feel and the noise level of an airport. The small American menu is a crowd pleaser, with classics like deviled eggs, a “Rubenesque” corned beef sandwich, gourmet burgers, bulky salads (Asian chopped chicken and Mediterranean seared tuna), and comfort food mains like wild mushroom meat loaf. Locals come for the wine bar that pours mostly California producers. We’ve never seen this before: Bottles are sold to-go at a discount.
