The best thing about this joint, owned by Max chef André Guerrero, is the pastrami. The beef is house cured for two weeks and applewood smoked, and the sandwich comes with all the “oinks”—red cabbage slaw, caramelized onions, Gruyère. The A-frame with patio seating might scream converted Dairy Queen, but this is a fast-food-for-foodies emporium. Try orange lemonade and Belgian fries with an array of sauces—chipotle aioli or curry dressing. Barbecued pulled pork on a soft roll doesn’t do it for you? Then fall back on a classic cheeseburger (Nebraska Angus beef) or rotisserie chicken. The banana cream pie is right-on.
