Obica Mozzarella Bar

This is as action packed as dairy gets. Fresh buffalo mozzarella is flown thrice weekly from Italy to LAX, where a special customs agent ensures the cheese arrives at the restaurants still dripping with cream. This chain is renowned in Italy; rumor has it that Nancy Silverton was inspired by the enterprise when conceiving Osteria Mozza. While the shopping mall setting doesn’t exude Milan, the sophisticated Italian design and drink menu—featuring Italian beers, wines, and Negronis—certainly help. It’s all about the cheese here. The degustation menu stars three versions of mozzarella (stracciatella di burrata, smoked, and classic) alongside imported Italian salumi. Even the beet and arugula salad is crowned with a giant, glistening lump. More lactose-light options include traditional pastas and panini.
