On a noisy stretch of Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake is chef-owner Jason Michaud’s sidewalk café dedicated to all things organic and locally sourced. The effort is impressive: From the eggs to the flour, most everything comes from in state. Macaroni and cheese has a crunchy cheddar crust, and a side of elephant kale is studded with warm pears. Vegetarian options abound, but meats like pork (braised osso buco style) and lamb (cooked in a rich stew and served with fries) are top-notch. Still, half the dishes flop (a charred sliver of striped bass and a bitter, mushy tempeh “steak”). The daily changing menu might be too demanding. Brunch and a by-the-pound salad bar are the biggest hits. Service is flighty, even for Silver Lake.
