Kendall’s Brasserie and Bar

Without a dedicated theater district, L.A. will likely never have a concentration of great after-show bars like those found along 44th or 46th streets in New York. But lodged under the southeast corner of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion we do have Kendall’s Brasserie and Bar , where the clientele, the conversation, and the chef’s hours are dictated by that night’s symphony at Disney Hall or by the staging of a Pinter or Chekhov play at the Taper. Modeled after the all-star brasseries of the St.-Germain-des-Prés, the restaurant is at once formal and inviting. The seafood bar stocks oysters, Maine lobsters, and littleneck clams. The cognac collection is encyclopedic, and you might consider sampling a few with actors Alfred Molina or Laurence Fishburne, opera composer Elliot Goldenthal, or any of the other lights who have gathered here after a performance. It’s as close as we get to Joe Allen’s, and it might even be a step above.
