Best Stray Cat Clinic, August 2011

There are an estimated one million stray cats in L.A., with each breeding female able to produce 32 kittens a year. So Karn Myers and Mark Dodge have tackled a Sisyphean task—and made huge inroads—with FixNation, their nonprofit Sun Valley facility that provides free spaying and neutering for homeless cats. Their vets have altered 69,000 felines since 1999. FixNation also offers guidance for trapping and rereleasing feral cats. (Stray kittens are adoptable; adults will be killed if taken to an animal shelter.) “Our focus,” says Myers, “is on what we can do for each kitty.”
