Glass House

Best Vintage Window Repair, August 2011

When you break a wavy pane on your 1920s bungalow, you have few options for preserving the appearance of the original. Before the 1950s, glassmakers would spread out their rolls of molten glass, which would develop distortions as it cooled. Glass House, in Pasadena, has more than a half century of experience dealing with old homes, and unlike other operations, it imports handmade wavy glass from Germany that looks antique. “Back in time,” says Martin Fleischer, the shop’s third-generation GM, “that kind of glass wasn’t so desirable. Now everybody wants the distorted stuff.”
