Travel Town Museum
Best Cheap Scenic Train Ride, August 2014
Walk around Los Angeles and you’ll observe remnants of the city’s rail years embedded in sidewalks and roads. The free Travel Town Museum lets rail-bound leviathans of yesteryear live out their retirement peacefully in the northern corner of Griffith Park. For less than $3 visitors can squeeze into a boxy seat on one of a trio of miniature locomotives and tour the grounds. Dipping under a quaint bridge and circling the museum’s collection of train cars, the ten-minute ride is just long enough for you to imagine a world without automobiles.
