Best Stone Fruit Vendor, August 2015
Friends of farmer Andy Mariani liken him to a mad scientist. The 69-year-old rare-fruit expert behind Andy’s Orchard has one of the largest selections of stone fruit on the West Coast, growing more than 200 types of peaches, nectarines, apricots, plums, and cherries on 60 acres near Silicon Valley. Every Wednesday from June through August, you can find new varieties of such hand-picked, tree-ripened specialties as Baby Crawford peaches and Black Republican cherries (yup, that’s their name) at the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market. Arrive early—the unique specimens are the first to go.
