Greystone Park

Best Free Secret Garden, August 2013

Just north of the Sunset Strip, on a quiet hill dotted with cypress, poplar, and pine trees, sits the 18.3-acre Greystone estate. The 1920s former mansion of the oil-rich Doheny family oozes opulence, as do the grounds. How fortunate, then, that the gorgeous Greystone Park, which surrounds the property, is free to the public, including the parking. The southern terraces offer views of Century City and downtown; paths that weave through succulents and bougainvillea lead to a pond with turtles and koi. This is indeed a world unto itself; a manicured lawn bordered by white rosebushes might have been plucked from Alice in Wonderland.
