Best Place To Pick Up A Cheap Ruscha, August 2011

Picture the scene: You’re in a museum where hundreds of eight-by-ten-inch artworks—some by Ed Ruscha, John Baldessari, Ed Moses, Yoshua Okon, and Mary Kelly—mingle with pieces by emerging artists. Everything is $300, and, oh yeah, they’re all unsigned. Only after you’ve bought one do you find out who did it. That’s the joy of INCOGNITO, the fund-raiser held each April by the Santa Monica Museum of Art. The line to get in forms hours in advance, but you can pay for an early peek during a cocktail reception. A lively celebration follows.
