Finn McCool’s

Best Irish Music, August 2008

Every Sunday starting at four, traditional Irish jigs and ballads fill Finn McCool’s, a five-year-old Santa Monica pub owned by Irish expat Gerri Gilliland and decorated with remnants from her stepfather’s Northern Ireland bar. Within an hour, pennywhistle players have been joined by guitarists, a couple of fiddlers, and an accordionist, and a full-blown jam session is under way in a window-lit corner. Over three hours a core group of five or so musicians will be joined by any number of compatriots, from studio players to visiting Dubliners.
