From 1978 to 1984, the Go-Go’s fought their way up from broken-bottle punk clubs like the Masque to the family-friendly Greek Theatre. Their music and image evolved from angry California hard core to the cashmere pop that briefly made them America’s jukebox sweethearts. This month the gals—Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, and Gina Schock—take the mic as part of a greatest-hits tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their Beauty and the Beat LP. They’ll play the Greek on Carlisle’s birthday, having received a Walk of Fame star on August 11. More information.
