The producers of The Beaver are finally releasing their troubled beast. The movie is about a deeply depressed man who finds sanity and redemption by speaking and listening to a beaver hand puppet. That Mel Gibson plays the ventriloquist has been problematic for the project, which costars director Jodie Foster. Yet a year of Mel’s image rehab (and the loss of the “Crazy” crown to Charlie Sheen) may have made it safe for the film to appear now. This could be a comeback rocket for Gibson, who voices the puppet in a thick Australian accent, without any help from Geoffrey Rush. More information.
