Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Music Festival
May 24, 2015 @ 10:30 AM - 8:00 PM
On Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, check out the L.A. area’s most extensive and festive outdoor Cajun, zydeco, blues and roots music fest, where two stages run nonstop from noon until dusk. This year, the blues stage features classic blues-rock (Spencer Davis Group, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Canned Heat) plus the first-ever West Coast appearance of 82-year-old Mississippi bluesman Leo “Bud” Welch. Also making their festival debut is the Royal Southern Brotherhood (featuring Cyril Neville, Devon Allman and Mike Zito). The Cajun/zydeco stage is truly one of the top Southern California showcases for Louisiana-inflected music—Dwayne Dopsie returns this year, and Grammy winners Terrance Simien and Grammy-nominated The Magnolia Sisters all make their debuts. It’s a carnival-like outdoor experience, with booths for food and crafts, and lots for the kids to do. And as in every year, there’s a Mardi Gras parade both days at 4 p.m.
