Over nine nights the plaza is lit with candles in a reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. Along Olvera Street vendors act as innkeepers and participants ask—in song—for a place to stay. The innkeepers respond in kind until the procession ends at the nativity scene at Avila Adobe.
