Las Cafeteras
July 12, 2012 @ 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Event Navigation
East L.A.’s Las Cafeteras are part of a new wave of young bands that blend their urban outlook and political activism with the traditions of son jarocho music—a genre from Veracruz, Mexico. A remix of traditional sounds, Las Cafeteras adds Afro-Caribbean marimba, spoken word, English, and Spanglish to jarocho instruments in a show they call Strumming New Traditions. A post-performance discussion with NPR’s Betto Arcos and Cesar Castro of Fandango Sin Fronteras explores the roots of their style. More information.
