Iris: A Journey Through the World of Cinema
July 21, 2011 @ 12:00 AM
Following a seemingly endless advertising blitz, Cirque du Soleil takes up residence at the Kodak, a theater usually associated with the rhetorical back flips of Oscar hosts. Fittingly the company’s debut spectacle is an homage to filmdom and scored by screen composer Danny Elfman. Directed by Philippe Decouflé, the choreographer of the 1992 Winter Olympics ceremonies, the show traces the evolution of the medium. About a year and $100 million have gone into preproduction and modifying the Kodak to accommodate the company’s dizzying feats. Even the preview schedule is ambitious, beginning in July and continuing until the September 25 premiere. Guided by the model Cirque developed in Vegas, where the troupe has several ongoing shows, it has signed on for a ten-year stay at the Kodak. More information.
