At 87, bluegrass banjo legend Earl Scruggs is still going strong. Scruggs, whose breakout began with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, developed the three-finger picking style that changed bluegrass. He and another Blue Grass Boy, Lester Flatt, later formed the Foggy Mountain Boys, giving us more than the Beverly Hillbillies theme song and the Bonnie and Clyde score: They created a joyful soundtrack to life in the remote hollers and rolling pastures of a bygone America. Scruggs is joined on this Royce Hall bill by L.A.’s rock and country trio Merle Jagger. More information.
