Wednesday Wheels: An Eisenhower-Era Edsel, Two Stingrays, and a Thunderbird

Welcome to our new weekly feature, where we spot some of the most impressive, double-take-inducing cars seen this week. We’re not talking about expensive Beemers that blend into the background; we mean cars that showcase some fun, some style, some panache. Hopefully, these cars will help you glide toward Friday. Where: Classic Car Auctions in Palm Springs

There’s always a good reason to hop in the car and head to Palm Springs, but with both Gay Pride and the new architecture museum opening, there was even more cause last weekend. While walking down Indian Canyon Drive, we caught sight of McCormick’s, a classic car auction house. They have some beauties on display, including this Eisenhower-era Edsel. Don’t get too close, people.

Spotted: Ford Thunderbird

We have an intense soft spot for T-birds and this one had us weak in the knees. The only thing that could have made us happier was Janet Leigh opening the door and stepping out (as she famously did in Psycho).

The cars of the ’70s don’t get the love they deserve. This maroon stingray is so sexy, with that curvy hood, windshield, and those side gills. Love, love, love.

We couldn’t decide whether we liked the cherry red or the maroon better. Tough decision! Regardless, the former features a Washington State plate—it’s so much more at home in California, right?
