Officials including mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County supervisor Mark-Ridley Thomas previewed the now 90 percent complete Expo Line extension at an event this morning at Palms.
Media and dignitaries gathered at the elevated station, located near Palms and National boulevards. They heard the mayor declare the entire 6.6-mile, $1.5 billion extension would open in the spring to Santa Monica. It will take about 45 minutes to get between the beach city and downtown’s Financial District.
“So you’ll be able to take this train from Grand to the sand and beyond,” Garcetti said, though CBS pointed out Expo never really touches Grand Avenue, since it terminates at Seventh and Flower streets in DTLA. Anyhoo.
The event also featured a test train gliding slowly into the station; and though it was inching its way forward, it was hard not to get excited. Check it out below, via Streetblog’s Joe Linton.
