For the fourth time, Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey will bring his great hair to the Le Mans 24 Hour Race.
Happening this weekend in France, the longstanding tradition — it began in 1923 — ranks as one of the most prestigious and glamorous races in the world. Le Mans is an endurance race, with cars running ragged for a day straight through a mix of special tracks and closed roads. Drivers race in teams, switching off so each driver can eat, rest, and take care of business.
But back to the former “McDreamy,” who recently left the long-running medical drama after rumors of acrimony on set: he’ll be part of a three-man team driving under the name Dempsey-Proton Racing. The 49-year-old loves racing and has competed at Le Mans in 2009, 2013, and 2014.
According to Agence France Presse, Dempsey is working on a TV mini-series based on the book The Limit, which chronicles the race for the 1961 Formula One world title. He seems to be warming to life on the Continent, though.
“I want to spend more time in Europe, to live, to run,” he told AFP. “I love it here, especially in the countryside.”
