It’s not exactly clear what a bumbling anthropologist has to do with selling cars, but these new Focus commercials starring Kate McKinnon are so amusing we’ll look past that point.
The Saturday Night Live standout plays Dr. Genevieve St. Jermaine, who disguises herself as five different personas to check out how the 2015 Focus can benefit them (alright). McKinnon runs with the material, especially when she plays a high-fashion model who can’t park her Focus because her high-collared sweater from Jean-Michel Paul Baguette (!) blocks her views. Thankfully, the car’s park assist does the parallel weaving for her.
Ford’s salesman Dan is the straight man to McKinnon’s calvalcade of characters, which include a ballerina, a hedge fund manager, a punk rocker, and a Lara Croft-type archeologist.
Andrea Zuehlk, Ford’s car digital marketing manager, said in a statement that McKinnon improvised some of the jokes. It’s clear they had a lot of fun on set; watch below.
