Chanting, breathing, and meditation will be required during tonight’s ride home: an expansive water main break sent brown water rushing through West Hollywood’s streets, prompting road closures throughout this already-crazy corner of the metropolis.
The break happened about 2:30 p.m., leading drivers to wade through dirty, smelly water (it’s muddy not sewer-y, according to the Los Angeles Times). Forty-five minutes later, a swath of the Sunset Strip was shuttered, between La Cienega and Sweetzer, while La Cienega was also out of commission, between Fountain and Sunset. There’s no timeline yet on when the break will be repaired and the streets cleaned.
The only ones happy about this latest example of L.A.’s crumbling infrastructure is Twitter and Instagram execs. Social media exploded with video of the brown deluge, which couldn’t come at a worse time, drought-wise. Check out the sad scene below.
