Beware This Weekend’s ‘Traffocalypse’

Obama, soccer, and baseball are to blame

This weekend will be a busy one in L.A. County, most notably because the president is in town, making money for his party at a ritzy residence in Pacific Palisades.

On Saturday, Obama lands at 1 p.m. at LAX, spending his entire time on the Westside (he departs the same day). Five hours after the president touches down, two huge sporting events take place. The U.S. soccer team takes on Mexico at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena; a game being intensely followed in L.A. Over at Echo Park’s Chavez Ravine, the Dodgers take on the Mets a few minutes after 6 p.m.

Sunday will offer some tie-ups in West Hollywood, though it’s for a good cause. AIDS Walk L.A. shuts down swaths of Melrose Avenue and Beverly Boulevard for much of the morning.

The L.A. Times had fun with the Saturday complications, making a very silly and amusing video about our woes. Beware the hyperbole.
