Everything looks a little different in 2020—and the same goes for our annual Whiskey Fest. With gatherings kiboshed for the foreseeable future, we won’t be throwing an in-person party, but the good news is we’ve figured out a way to combine all the essential elements of the usual festivities: the best whiskey brands, yummy bites, a little bit of knowledge, and you.
For the next three Thursdays—December 3, 7, and 10—we’ve partnered with local restaurants and ChowNow for an interactive take-out experience, complete with a whiskey kit, a sampling of appetizers, and a goodie bag for good measure.
The first weekly installment (Dec. 3) features a trio of bites from Ronan in Fairfax—housemade focaccia with cultured butter, a selection of cured meats, and burrata Genovese—along with tastings from House of Suntory and Benriach distilleries, and a Perfect Penicillin cocktail kit. Deets about the next two weeks coming soon, but expect tastings from Jim Beam, Knob Creek, Maker’s Mark, and Basil Hayden’s.

For week two (Dec. 7), Forma in Venice serves chicken liver pate in a jar with tomato and onion jam, and fruit and pecan bread; arancini; and a selection of cheeses. The night’s tastings are provided by Basil Hayden’s, Jim Beam, Knob Creek, and Don Francisco’s Coffee. (Details about week three coming soon.)
So how does it work? Purchase a ticket for your selected date (or all three!) through ChowNow, pick up your food and drinks at the designated time, and then settle in at home for a live-stream experience moderated by Adam Laukhuf, coauthor of the new book Big Macs & Burgundy, and a magic show with Alex Boyce.
We almost forgot to mention the best part: each week, ChowNow will donate a portion of tickets sales to a charity of the participating restaurant’s choosing. Get your tickets here before they’re gone.
