As if we didn’t have enough reasons to envy Montecito—the natural beauty, the cliffside mansions, residents like Rob Lowe and Oprah. Now comes word that Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne—the much-lauded duo behind Lucques, A.O.C., Tavern, and the various Larders—are opening their next concept in the luxe Santa Barbara community. The as-yet-unnamed project will land in the Montecito Country Mart and will serve what they’re calling farmhouse cooking: locally grown foods cooked simply. Chef Javier Espinoza and manager Julie Grimm, both Lucques and A.O.C. vets, will be moving up north to oversee the restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late spring 2013.
The move isn’t altogether surprising for these two. Styne attended college in Santa Barbara, and Goin’s husband, David Lentz, operates a Santa Barbara branch of his restaurant, Hungry Cat.
