We’re #1! Alma Takes Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurant

Like, in the COUNTRY

Talk about a good way to start the week: This morning, Bon Appétit magazine announced its top 10 Best New Restaurants for 2013, and guess who took the number 1 spot? L.A.’s own Alma Restaurant.

Our hearty congrats go out to 28-year-old chef Ari Taymor and his nibble team down on Broadway. Perhaps Bon App’s restaurant editor, Andrew Knowlton, was turned on to the little gem by Los Angeles magazine critc Patric Kuh’s review of the place back in November? We’d like to think so.

This is a huge national nod for our fair city’s food scene, which has been slowly but surely gaining broader recognition, but whose restaurants still seem to get overlooked by the critical bigwigs. (We’re looking at you, James Beard Foundation).

See what our own Kuh had to say about the big winner, here. And check out Andrew Knowlton’s nine other picks, including San Francisco’s Saison at #2, at bonappetit.com
