Vote for L.A.’s ‘Best New Pastry Chef’ in Food and Wine

This year marks Food and Wine Magazine’s 1st annual “Best New Pastry Chef” award and, wouldn’t you know it, Los Angeles has two candidates vying for the honors. Kasra Ajdari of Raphael in Studio City, and Joshua Graves of Ray’s and Stark Bar at LACMA, both of whom trained in culinary arts in Pasadena, received nominations for their creative and ambitious restaurant desserts. That’s no small feat in a city well known for its sweet tooth.

Graves has already been praised by several L.A. publications for his artistic desserts at Ray’s (our dining citric Patric Kuh was a fan of Graves’ peach financier) Ajdari’s deserts at Raphael are equally as ambitious and applauded, often riffing on sweet and savory ingredients including beer, pretzels and caramelized chicken skin.
